Unified Grocers believes that most all
independents maximize their potential by belonging
to an ad group. The following ad groups offer
efficiencies of group buying for independent
store operators with similar “go-to-market” strategies.

Thriftway
Positioned as full-service conventional grocery
stores, Thriftway stores take pride in a leadership
position for quality, service and convenience.
Fresh produce, specialty meat, unparalleled
service departments, including specialty deli
and bakery, and a commitment to customer service
define these stores. Thriftway’s success
is derived from a combination of factors: common
advertising, support staff composed of departmental
experts, and owner/operator interest that extends
to active participation in building the Thriftway
brand. The Thriftway group is focused on helping
the retailer be a major force in the marketplace
while respecting and building on the special
vision and personality of each owner.

Red Apple Markets
Red Apple Markets are geared to the neighborhood
and make a statement to personalized service
and community involvement. While all Red Apples
share a common weekly ad, and adhere to a common
décor plan, the format retains sufficient
flexibility to cater to virtually any market’s
demographic. Red Apple stores tend to be a secondary
store or the only store in a community, and
typically range in size from 12,000 to 20,000
sq. ft.

value through large displays, bold signage,
aggressive advertising and effective low-cost
promotions. The Market Place group’s minimal
infrastructure, low operating costs and large
advertising print runs provide efficiencies
and economies for the individual retailer. This
format offers a weekly ad that speaks of value
and a monthly coupon book that has wide appeal.
The Market Place group often works together
to procure special buys on various products.
Positioned as primary stores, Market Place stores
generally range in size from 20,000 to 45,000

In-House Independent
This is an ad program only. In-House Independent
stores are characterized by having a weekly
handbill with their own store banner and flex
page for promoting their own specific products
and activities. These stores enjoy the efficiencies
of having an ad written and produced by a common
support staff as well as sharing ad production
and printing costs.

In-House Independent, or call: (206) 764-7465.
Neighborhood Market
Neighborhood Market stores are typically small
stores providing a convenient shopping opportunity
for their immediate communities. These stores
use a bi-monthly, 4-page, tab-size, handbill
for their print advertising vehicle. The handbill
offers a flex page option for stores to promote
their own specific products and activities.
